Photography Community

St. Louis Camera Club

STLCameraClub.com
Location: St. Louis, MO

I joined the St. Louis Camera Club about a year after moving to the area. The St. Louis Camera Club is one of the oldest photography clubs in the United States. Its first meeting was held on February 12, 1914!

The club features weekly meetings in addition to other special photography related events and outings. Each meeting is an opportunity to view an educational program presented by a speaker from the photographic community, followed by a photo critique and competition in a number of categories.

Meetings are open to anybody who would like to attend, however only members may submit photos for the competitions.

Photo Flood Saint Louis

PhotoFloodSTL.org
Location: St. Louis, MO

Since moving to St. Louis, I found a group of photographers who get together periodically to document the neighborhoods and happenings of the city. Formed in 2012, the members of PFSTL have documented over 70 communities and events in the St. Louis and surrounding areas. I have only been out for a few of their photo floods and mini floods (what they call their photo-outings) but find them to be a great way to learn about the communities around my new home, and to network with local photographers. Each outing is concluded with a friendly contest where the best images are selected and an article is written to share choice images and tell about the area.

Long Island Portrait Photography Workshop

Meetup.com | Facebook
Location: Bethpage, New York

Organized through Meetup.com, LIPPW meets monthly at the Bethpage Community Center to provide photographers of all skill levels an opportunity to practice and learn from one another.

I was the organizer of the group for approximately 5 years. During this time, I had opportunities to work with many local photographers and models. It was an opportunity for myself and the rest of the members to practice new techniques, try out new gear. Members ranged from absolute beginners to seasoned professionals.
