Photo Flood Saint Louis

PhotoFloodSTL.org
Location: St. Louis, MO

Since moving to St. Louis, I found a group of photographers who get together periodically to document the neighborhoods and happenings of the city. Formed in 2012, the members of PFSTL have documented over 70 communities and events in the St. Louis and surrounding areas. I have only been out for a few of their photo floods and mini floods (what they call their photo-outings) but find them to be a great way to learn about the communities around my new home, and to network with local photographers. Each outing is concluded with a friendly contest where the best images are selected and an article is written to share choice images and tell about the area.

The list below is the floods that I took part in. The link goes to the article on the Photo Flood website. If you click on the camera icon next to the listing, it will take you to my photos from that outing.

365 Project

Jaypoc365 on Instagram

Part of my personal growth as a photographer is to keep shooting and to get involved with various projects. This year, along with the purchase of new Fujifilm camera gear, I took on a 365 project. Starting on March 15, 2016 I set out to make a new photo every day for one year. The composition, subjects and style of the photos vary from day to day as I’m occasionally experimenting or trying something new. I haven’t been keeping to any one theme or style. Follow me and you’ll find headshots, street photography, landscapes, long exposures, and even some snapshots. The biggest challenge is finding something new and/or interesting to shoot every day. I’ve missed a bunch, but I’ve also made several photos that I love.

Update for September 8, 2016: While my love for photography has not dwindled, I have found the ability to go out on a daily basis and take photos has been difficult. I still bring my camera with me just about everywhere, and will continue to take photos. I have stopped posting to 365project.org because of the way they count the photos (I had to upload “dummy” photos to maintain the accurate day count and I think other users were starting to get annoyed). I will continue to post to Instagram.

Vegas Vacation

Location: Las Vegas, Nevada

I don’t get to travel as much as I would like, but when I do, I try to capture as much as I can. Kelly and I spend a week in Las Vegas. We stayed on the strip at Pairs and made treks out to the Valley of Fire, The Hoover Dam, Fremont Street and as many attractions with in the city as we could. The shows and food were absolutely incredible! The full album is available on my personal Facebook page Facebook page.

Tomb Raider Inspired Shoot

Model: Lauren Clover
Location: King Zog’s Ruins, Muttontown, NY

Lauren has been a long time supporter of the meetup group I run, and when she came to me with her Lara Croft cosplay, we started to brainstorm ideas and locations. We picked King Zog’s ruins in the Muttontown preserve. It was once the home of a beautiful estate, but what remains are remnants of buildings and structures set in an overgrown wooded environment.

The Unisphere

Location: Queens, NY

Well known for its frequent appearances in music videos and movies, the Unisphere is a 12-story globe of the Earth located in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. It was originally built for the 1964-1965 World’s Fair. This remains one of my favorite photographs that I made.
